Publishing / Századvég Publishing

The foundation of Századvég Publishing is linked to the creation of the intellectual image of the young generation who participated actively to change the political regime in Hungary. We intend to actively promote democratic political culture and the development of publication in the field of humanities. Since the foundation of the journal Századvég in 1985, our main task has been the creation and preservation of values and the presentation of patterns in European culture. We have discussed many crucial social issues in the publications that have sprung from the journal.

Since our reorganization in 1996, we have been working within the current frames. Both our recent volume and the publisher are in their 14 th year of existence. Multiple journals and 20-25 books or other publications are published on a yearly basis.

In our social science portfolio, under the aegis of creation and preservation of values, we devote great care to research on government, election politics, media, communications, sociology, law, history, and civic issues.

Our reference series includes the government assessment volumes that have been analyzing the annual issues in politics of the actual Hungarian government for 5 years so far.

Two of our authors have won the Kolnai Aurél-prize awarded for the best publication in the field of political science (British Conservative thinking and politics, 19-20 th Centuries by Gergely Egedy, Horse or statue? Studies on politics, science and political science by Gábor G. Fodor–István Schlett). The Polányi-prize in 2008 was awarded to one of our authors as well (for the best publication in the field of sociology, The history of German sociology from the turn of the century until 1933, I-II. By Gábor Felkai). In past years two of our studies were awarded the same prize. The Ministry for National Cultural Heritage awarded Fitz-József-prize to the book The beginning of all things. The cultural history of birth in Hungary, 16 -20 th centuries by Deáky Zita and Lilla Krász, which was published by our organisation.
